BSAA/BHS Alumni Hall of Fame

We had a great time at the 2024 BSAA/BHS Alumni Hall of Fame Recognition Gala
on
June 7 at the Chatterbox Club!

The 2024 members of the Brighton Schools Alumni Association (BSAA)/Brighton High School (BHS) Alumni Hall of Fame represent inspiring achievements in a variety of professions and service, while sharing appreciation for the education they received from the BCSD system in general and BHS in particular. They were inducted at this year’s Recognition Gala on Friday, June 7, at the Chatterbox Club.

This year’s new “hall of famers” are:

Alan Haberbusch, BHS’60, a retired, decorated Air Force officer who played a major role in developing and certifying national defense systems, as well as supervising and training his fellow airmen. With his daughter, he founded a girls’ soccer league that has grown to one of the most highly regarded in the state of Florida. He served as a referee for this league for many years, earning a number of commendations from his community and the soccer world.

Robert (Bob) King, BHS’64, who has made major contributions to the law and education as a former assistant district attorney, New York State legislator, Monroe County executive and State University of NY (SUNY) chancellor. He has served as an interim college president, assistant secretary for post-secondary education in the United States Department of Education, and president and CEO of the Arizona Community Foundation. He also has been active in a number of charitable organizations, including the United Way, Camp Good Days and Special Times, and the American Lung Association.

Marc O’Brien, BHS’60, a retired financial advisor and business owner who has made unique contributions to and beyond his profession, including in education and international diplomacy. Before founding his financial consulting firm, he served as a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar in Uganda; was a summer intern at NASA; and consulted with the chief of the US Forest Service, Environmental Protection Agency, vice president's office, and Congressional committee staff during his academic career. In retirement, he has continued to teach at the Harvard Institute for Learning in Retirement.

Jane Tuttle, BHS’69, Professor Emeritus of Clinical Nursing at the University of Rochester. She was a longtime director of the Nursing Practitioner program, pushing through key revisions to the curriculum that bolstered the program’s pediatric and women’s health content. She has been honored as Nurse Practitioner of the Year by the New York State and the Connecticut Nurse Practitioners Group and inducted as a Fellow in the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, and recognized for her outstanding mentorship of numerous nursing students throughout her career.

David Lipman, MD, BHS’71, who has been featured in the BSAA newsletter and accepted for the hall of fame, will be recognized at the Gala and  inducted at a special event in the fall, when he can attend in person.

The Recognition Gala featured videos from the new hall of famers and brief in-person remarks highlighting their careers and how their BHS educations contributed to their successes. Classmates, friends, family, students and BHS faculty attended to cheer on their honorees.

More information about the event and the new hall of famers will be in the BSAA’s 2024 13th Corner newsletter shortly.
